Class Theme Selection for your Group Lesson!

Toddler Art Classes (18-36 months)

Possible class themes include (but are not limited to):

*classes for this age group feature 3-4 activities per session, each focusing on the chosen theme of the day

Triangles, Squares and Circles, Oh My!   

  • Young artists will explore shapes, color and strengthen their fine motor skills through a variety of 2-3 dimensional art materials. By focusing on a specific color or theme each session, children will build their skills with drawing, collage, painting and small-scale sculpture.

Toddler Art Adventures

  • Budding toddler artists will explore paint, crayons, oil pastels, collage materials, air-dry clay and recycled sculpture in this process-oriented art class. Themes for projects include NYC, outer space, animals, opposites and much more. This curriculum is a great introduction to a structured class for young artists and will help strengthen their fine motor skills and ability to represent the world around them.

Art Explorations

  • Students will explore a variety of 2-3 dimensional art materials, increasing their fine motor skills, as well as their verbal and visual vocabularies. An extra focus on recycled materials and world cultures will be made throughout the semester, along with a few long-term art projects. These long term art projects will help kids understand the process of art making, with less emphasis on the final product.

Pre-School Age Art Classes (3-5 years)

Possible class themes include (but are not limited to):

  • Alfresco Art

    • Students will create masterpieces large and small using mainly handmade and natural materials. Outdoor and ephemeral art projects will also be explored in this process-oriented art class.  Possible projects include homemade watercolors creation, natural material printmaking and outdoor chalk murals.

  • All About Me

    • Young artists will carefully look at themselves and the world around them through a variety of art activities. Projects will focus around self and family portraits, as well as artists who explore similar themes, such as Frida Kahlo, Pablo Picassos and Andy Warhol. *Can also be modified for 5-12 years

  • Art Around the World

    • Young artists will travel around the world on an artistic journey, exploring 2-3 dimensional multi-cultural art activities, including Mexican frescos, Kente cloth weaving and Brazilian Carnivale masks.

  • Art Safari

    • Young artists will explore the wild kingdom through animal-inspired art activities. Possible projects include papier mache dinosaur eggs, stripes and spots printmaking, and shoe rubbing fish creation.

  • Let’s Look in our Favorite Book

    • Young artists will read a different children’s book each session and then complete a related art activity. Books and activities include Leonardo the Terrible Monster creature collages, A Big Bug Surprise insect sculptures, Alexander and the No Good, Very Bad Day printmaking.

  • Matisse, Monet and me

    • Budding Picassos will get inspiration for their artwork by looking at the work of fine artists. Activities include Andy Goldsworthy-inspired nature sculptures, Kandinsky music painting, Jim Dine-inspired mixed media creation and much more! *Can also be modified for 5-12 years

  • Move Your Body *NEW*

    • Budding artists in this class will use their whole body to make art!  We’ll create life-size silhouettes, capturing our bodies in motion, drawings with our feet and other non-traditional projects.  This class is perfect for an active artist :)

  • Recycled Art

    • Young artists will use a variety of recycled materials to create 2-3 dimensional artwork. Projects include: junk printmaking, recycled robot creation, paper making and city creation. *Can also be modified for 5-12 years

  • Science and Art!

    • Budding Picassos and young Einsteins unite!  Kids will go on an adventure through the intersecting worlds of science and art in this class.  We’ll get messy with homemade chalk, Gyotaku printmaking, fossil creation and much more!

School Age Art Class (5-12 years) → 45-60 minutes long

Possible class themes include (but are not limited to):

*this class will focus on one main project per session, in addition to a strong focus on long-term projects

  • Alfresco Art

    • Students will create masterpieces large and small using mainly handmade and natural materials. Outdoor and ephemeral art projects will also be explored in this process-oriented art class.  Possible projects include homemade watercolors creation, natural material printmaking and outdoor chalk murals.

  • Bookmaking

    • Kids will explore traditional and non-traditional bookmaking techniques in this hands on class.  Projects include accordion books, hand-sewn bookbinding, chimera mix & match books and much more!

  • Build it Big

    • Young artists will create large-scale and communal artwork, using a variety of two and three-dimensional materials. Activities include recycled robots, New York City panoramas and Jackson Pollock splatter paintings.

  • Contemporary Kids

    • Kids will discover the artwork of contemporary and 20th century artists, including Jim Dine, Kiki Smith, Keith Haring, Orly Genger, Sun Kwak, Banksy and many more.  We’ll explore their method and materials, along with new techniques being used by artists.

  • Draw, Doodle and Pop!

    • This unique drawing class will focus on traditional drawing techniques, getting inspiration from fine artists' artwork such as Jim Dine, Vincent Van Gogh, Keith Haring and many more.  

  • Kids and Clay

    • Students will explore air-dry clay through a variety of handbuilding techniques, creating their own unique sculptures.  Alternative methods for sculpting will also be explored, including recycled assemblages, paper sculptures and much more!

  • Music & Art *NEW*

    • Jazz, rock, folk, classical - just a few of the music genres we’ll explore through art in this *NEW* class!  We’ll work on jazz-inspired finger paintings, mark-making to the beat of rock n roll and much more! We’ll also learn about different artists who use music as their muse.

  • Puppet Making for Kids

    • Students will explore their dramatic side by creating whimsical puppets, using traditional and non-traditional materials. Projects include papier mache self portrait puppets, paper sculpture marionettes, stick puppets and theater creation!

  • Science and Art!

    • Budding Picassos and young Einsteins unite!  Kids will go on an adventure through the intersecting worlds of science and art in this *NEW* class!  We’ll get messy with homemade chalk, Gyotaku printmaking, fossil creation and much more!

  • Zip, Zap, Zoom: Comics for Kids

    • Budding comic artists and enthusiasts will learn the basics to create their own comic book through hands-on activities and explorations of contemporary comic artists.
