ART IN THE BAR - ADULT ART WORKSHOPS

Join us for weekly and monthly Art Workshops at small businesses throughout Brooklyn!

We believe that everyone benefits from creative time - especially us adults getting away from our phones!  With that in mind, we've partnered with local bars, cafes and businesses to offer a series of Art Workshops, designed for beginners to get back into using their hands and making art.  Check our schedule below for a class near you!

  • 6/14 ~ Intro to Watercolor ~ Students will learn basic watercolor techniques and then complete a series of watercolor paintings!  Techniques such a dry brush and wet into wet will be demonstrated by our teacher, followed by ample time for students to experiment with the materials and techniques on their own. Create your own masterpiece without the restrictions of "copying" the teacher.

  • 6/28 ~ DIY Stamp Creation ~ Students in this class will learn basic relief printing techniques, creating their own linoleum block stamp from design to carving to printing.  Everyone will go home with their own unique stamp, an edition of prints and info on how to continue the printing at home!

  • 7/5 ~ Still Life Observational Drawing ~ Students will work together to create an engaging still life composition and then depict this design using traditional drawing techniques and materials. This class will focus on drawing with charcoal in variety of intensity, along with how to manipulate kneaded and white erasers to enhance your work.

  • 7/12 ~ Intro to Watercolor ~ Students will learn basic watercolor techniques and then complete a series of watercolor paintings!  Techniques such a dry brush and wet into wet will be demonstrated by our teacher, followed by ample time for students to experiment with the materials and techniques on their own.   • 7/19 ~ DIY Printmaking ~ Students will explore traditional and non-traditional printmaking techniques that can easily be done at home.  We’ll use recycled cardboard to create traditional collagraph prints, as well as styrofoam sheets to replicate linoleum carving.  We’ll print with water-based printing ink and also permanent ink pads.  Wine corks, bottle caps and bubble wrap will also be explored to showcase how household items can also be used to create gorgeous prints!

  • 7/26 ~ Still Life Observational Drawing ~ Students will work together to create an engaging still life composition and then depict this design using traditional drawing techniques and materials. This class will focus on drawing with pencil, charcoal, and conte crayon, along with how to manipulate kneaded and white erasers to enhance your work.

  • 8/2 ~ Watercolor Exploration with Floral Inspiration ~ Students will learn basic watercolor techniques and then complete a series of watercolor paintings!  Techniques such a dry brush and wet into wet will be demonstrated by our teacher, primarily focused on depicting flowers, followed by ample time for students to experiment with the materials and techniques on their own. Create your own masterpiece without the restrictions of "copying" the teacher. Floral arrangements will be on hand for inspiration!

  • 8/9 ~ Block Printing Tote Bags ~ Students in this class will learn basic relief printing techniques, creating their own linoleum block stamp from design to carving to printing.  Stamps will then be used to decorate a canvas tote bag, which each student leaving class with a finished tote, reusable stamp and info on how to keep printing at home! Additional printing surfaces can be brought to class.

  • 8/16 ~ Portrait Drawing ~ Students will learn basic portraiture techniques, including facial proportions, how to depict features and other artist tricks.  We’ll work primarily in pencil, using kneaded and white erasers as drawing utensils as well.

  • 8/23 ~ Watercolor Card Creation ~ Students will learn basic watercolor techniques and then complete a series of watercolor paintings!  Techniques such a dry brush and wet into wet will be demonstrated by our teacher, followed by ample time for students to experiment with the materials and techniques on their own. Create your own masterpiece without the restrictions of "copying" the teacher. We’ll work towards creating a small series of painted cards.  Additional painting surfaces can be brought to class.

  • 8/30 ~ Printmaking Exploration ~ Students in this class will learn basic relief printing techniques, creating their own linoleum printing plate from design to carving to printing.  We’ll use traditional water-based printing ink and brayers in this interactive and messy workshop! Everyone will go home with their own unique stamp, an edition of prints and info on how to continue the printing at home.

Students will explore different fine art materials and techniques.  Includes all art materials and one free drink.

Minimum of 5 students; Maximum of 10 students

  1. 7/8 ~ DIY Stamp Creation ~ Students will carve their own linoleum blocks and create a unique edition of prints!  Each student will leave with their artwork and reuseable linoleum block!
  2. 8/12 ~ Acrylic on Canvas ~ Students will learn basic acrylic painting techniques, which will be applied to their own finished paintings.  One 8x10 canvas and canvas paper will be provided, along with all painting materials. Any additional surfaces can also be brought to class.
